Since 1953 the families of Altadena Nursery School have proudly
offered gourmet quality California navel orange and Arizona
ruby grapefruit. With your support our non-profit, co-op nursery
school continues to enrich the lives of Pasadena area children.
These are the most delicious, freshest, juiciest oranges
and grapefruit you can buy. They come to us directly from
our growers in California and Arizona and are only a few days
off the tree when you receive them. This fruit will last approximately
5 weeks if kept in a cool place where air is allowed to circulate.
Our prices are below local market prices for top quality fruit.
This year's oranges will be bigger and sweeter!
A case of 2013 oranges (42 lbs.) holds about 72 navel oranges.
These oranges are almost 20% larger than last year's harvest.
We are working with our growers to ensure this year's oranges
are sweeter than ever.
A case of grapefruit (36 lbs.) holds 36 to 40 sweet ruby
grapefruit. We guarantee our product, and a portion of your
purchase is tax deductible!
We are no longer taking orders for this delicious fruit,
but you can find out more for next year's sale:
History & Importance of the ANS Orange Sale
Since 1953 the families of Altadena Nursery School have
proudly offered gourmet-quality California navel oranges and
Arizona ruby grapefruit. In the first Orange Sale, 40 families
in the school purchased the equivalent of 280 boxes of oranges.
The oranges were obtained directly from an independent grower
in Upland and were hauled loose in a borrowed truck to the
school where members counted and packed them into their own
boxes. Since then, ANS's annual Orange Sale has become the
primary funding supplement to the school generating about
40% of our operating costs for the year. Because of the Orange
Sale we can maintain lower tuition prices so that we are better
able to serve the community while still providing the nurturing,
high quality, nursery school environment that we expect for
About Altadena Nursery School
Altadena Nursery School (ANS) is a licensed, non-profit,
non-sectarian, interracial, cooperative nursery school in
which each family shares in the school's planning and operations.
ANS was started in 1950 by a small group of CalTech parents
as a babysitting co-op and has grown into a nursery school
that operates daily for up to 50 children from the ages of
two to five years old. Since its beginning, ANS has made a
unique and profound contribution to children and families
of the Pasadena/Altadena community.
The philosophy of Altadena Nursery School is based on our
belief in the capacity of human beings to grow in a positive
way. We believe that children can learn to master themselves
and that parents can learn to be effective. As a cooperative
school ANS knows that the best education comes about when
parents and children are closely involved in that education.
Our professional teaching staff interacts with each child
in light of the dynamics of his or her entire family. Parents
and teachers work together to help each child grow and discover
the world at his or her own pace.
